"Nike" And Losing A Super Star.
So the stock we are looking at this time is Niki and on Friday they had some bad news. One of the athletes they sponsored jumped ship. Who was it? It was Kylian Nappe, who is one of the world's highest profile soceer players. He announced that day on Instagram, of a places that he was ending his twenty year partnership. A new question. How many athletes does Niki sponsor? The answer is over 1,000! In 2025 they spent $4.69 billion on "demand creation". That was up 9% from the previous year before. Things like this happen. It pulled the stocks price down. Nike's market value has fallen about 80% over five years. Look at its five day chart. Look now at how one series of it's Calls which expire five days out are now trading. In the Monday premarket the stock is up $.05. So the question now is, is watching stuff like this a waste of time? Is it all a guessing game? My answer is before I see the outcome of what happens is yes, it kind of is. If the stock has a strong uptick on Monday morning that would be evidence of investors discounting this event but any rebound could fizzle out followed with a second wave of selling pressure. I don't enjoy the game of trying to outguess "situational occurances" based on one off events like this. That said, I have no problems playing Exxon options with it's price movements related to war time events. Now this on Monday's close. It helped the DJIA was up 336 points. A rebound over the weekend after the news died down? It's now Tuesday on the opening. $.67 to $1.35 is not bad. Playing one week options on stocks in this price range is not really a game I like to play.
